Newsletter
Last modified: February 1, 2010We ask all Long Beach Cyclists in the community to forward ideas for stories, additional topics or opinions related to our web page content, and also related to what we might include in future editions of the Hub, our printed newsletter. If you would like to contribute, (and we hope you do), please send your thoughts to
LBCyclistsNewsletter@gmail.com
Or, click on CONTACT US at the top of the page and send us your message, now or any time.
The Hub is mailed to Long Beach Cyclists members who have donated $50 or more.
In the current edition of the Hub, Long Beach Cyclists chairperson Bernadette McKeever gives us an overview of what Long Beach Cyclists will be up to in the year 2010.
In addition, Michael Bos provides us with a summary and two graphs that help us visualize key points found in the Second Street Sharrows and Green Lane Progress Report, December 2009 that was prepared by Long Beach Mobility Coordinator Charles Gandy and Program Engineer Rock Miller of KOA Corporation. Numerous members of Long Beach Cyclists spent many, many hours on Second Street in Belmont Shore carefully keeping count of all cyclists and making note of their lane positions and other behaviors. This data was provided to Gandy and Miller, and they used it to produce their report.
Also, Amanda Mithers interviewed local cyclist Bernard Serrano, owner of many vintage bicycles. Finally, the current Hub includes a Ride & Events Calendar.
What might we include in future editions? Â Free-lance writers and photographers out there, here are some ideas:
CONTENT
—How to drive on various streets in your neighborhood (For example, how to ride along Broadway)
—Politics and business with the City of Long Beach
—Travel Report (Stories from the road, or about your neighborhood, or at your favorite local destination)
—Calendar/Events:  Local cycling-related events in our region  (boundaries: southern L.A., northern Orange County)
—DIY (Do it yourself):  How-to articles, a ‘rag sheet’
—Facilities under development in Long Beach  (for example, sharrows, bike boxes)
—Reporting / News Stories / ‘Bike Beat’  (Anything bike related in the local area)
—Opinion  (Topics that lead to your proposed resolution. Please keep in mind the Long Beach Cyclists Mission Statement and Purpose Statement. Click ADVOCACY at the top of the page to read our mission and purpose statements. If you gripe, be sure to follow it with a proposed resolution that can lead to positive change in our city.
