Education

League-certified Cycling Instructors in Long Beach conduct Traffic Skills classes for cyclists. Traffic Skills classes are adapted from the League of American Bicyclists Smart Cycling program.

After attending one evening in-class session, you participate in one outdoor session. The program is free. In-class sessions take place at CSULB Pyramid Annex, 2nd floor. Advance registration is required. To register, go to csulb.edu/rideshare.

Date options of upcoming sessions are listed on the registration web page. Select your preferred dates.

Note that you also have the option of taking the same course in Huntington Beach. LCI Jim Powers of Huntington Beach Bicycle Advocates (HuBBA) leads a similar, two-part Street Cycling Skills class in Huntington Beach. Advance registration is required. The fee for the Huntington Beach program  is $12. For more information, go to HuBBAbikenews.blogspot.com or contact Jim at jimcp1@aol.com.

Traffic Skills 101a is a two-hour classroom presentation consisting of videos, powerpoint, witty-dialogue and lots of Q&A.

Traffic Skills 101b is a three-hour on-road application of the principles discussed in the classroom. Emergency maneuvers, signaling and graduated street navigation are covered. (Bicycle and helmet required.)

Other cycling courses can be arranged to meet your needs. In addition to 101a and 101b, we offer Traffic Skills for the Family (adults and children), Tutoring for the Adult (beginning or advanced levels), Traffic Skills for the Spanish-Speaking Cyclist (varios de nosotros hablamos español, así que, ¡bienvenidos todos!), and Traffic Skills for specific groups of people, such as employees who cycle to work, etc.  Which courses might best suit your needs?
