Bicycle Co-op in Long Beach—The H.U.B.—Feb 8

Great news!  Our friends with Pedal Movement are starting up a bicycle cooperative called the H.U.B. Congratulations Graham Baden!

The first Pedal Movement meeting at the H.U.B. will be Monday, February 8 at 7:00 pm. Click EVENTS at the top of the longbeachcyclists.com page for details, for a map, and for contact information.

The H.U.B. bicycle cooperative is being created from scratch with volunteer labor—you are invited to pitch in!—in a lot and building across the street from the Pacific Coast Highway station of the Metro Blue Line.

At the February 8th meeting, Graham invites all to participate in the planning and roll-up-your-sleeves work of making it happen. The agenda includes volunteer hours, clean-up procedures, leadership, project direction, and 2010 planning.

Yes… uh… I love words of appreciation… but the photo is not mine. The very plywood sheet turned into a chalkboard—the subject of the photo—is at the H.U.B. Graham posted a photo of it on his pedalmovement site, and I also saw it at the Catalyst Space page. My guess is that the photo is Graham’s. The Feb 8 meeting was very inspiring. Many people… more people than seats… and lots of energy, lots of enthusiasm. A considerable number of people are pitching in this week. Painting, creating spaces where tools and bicycle parts go, brooming… all manner of set up tasks. I believe that Graham hopes the H.U.B. will be ready to open to the public in March. The H.U.B. may well become a very important community space. This is fantastic news for all of us. Michael.
